"Actor/comedian Steve Carell has been announced as joining the cast of the upcoming untitled Apple TV Series morning-drama show opposite actresses Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon. He's an Oscar-nominated actor/comedian whose no stranger to the small screen - having starred as Michael Scott on 'The Office', NBC's single-camera series that elevated him to stardom - earning him a Golden Globe Award. After enduring success in motion pictures he's returning television. In the still untitled Apple series, Carell will play Mitch Kessler, a morning show anchor who is struggling to maintain relevance in a changing media landscape.

Announced last year, the project was the first drama series to be ordered by Apple as the tech giant began to execute on its design to into the television-series space. The series hails from Michael Ellenberg's Media Res studio based off on idea drawing from background material from CNN senior media correspondent Brian Stelter's novel
Top of the Morning: The Cutthroat World of Morning TV, which recounted the recent rivalry between NBC's '
Today Show' and ABC's '
Good Morning America'.

It is executively produced by Ellenberg; Aniston and her producing partner Kristin Hahn through Echo Films; and Witherspoon and her producing partner Lauren Levy Neustadter through Hello Sunshine. It was sought after by a number of outlets including Netflix, before Apple picked up the project landing a two-season order (10 episodes per season). Media Res, Aniston and Witherspoon are the principle owners of the show. In April 2018, Jay Carson departed as showrunner from the project, replaced by Kerry Ehrin."
