[NEWS] TV Line Names Jennifer Performer of the Week

Jennifer Aniston | The Morning Show as Alex Levy | Episode: "The Interview" (S1 EP10)
Congratulations to Jennifer for earning the title of Performer of the Week for her performance as Alex Levy in AppleTV+ series 'The Morning Show' episode "The Interview".

THE PERFORMER | Jennifer Aniston

THE SHOW | AppleTV+'s 'The Morning Show'

THE EPISODE | "The Interview" (S01.EP10)

THE PERFORMANCE | TV Line called Aniston's performance, "an absolute revelation" as embattled co-anchor Alex Levy. We knew the 'Friends' all-star had comedy chops to spare. And courtesy of her indie work (see: 'The Good Girl' (2002), 'Cake' (2014), she's proven herself to be no dramatic slouch either. But the AppleTV+ series has afforded the A-list actress the rare opportunity to regularly play comedy and drama (and even camp) simultaneously and, at times, unsympathetically. And she has more than risen to the occasion. Truthfully, we didn't know she had it in her. But after watching this week's 'Morning Show' finale, our skepticism has officially given way to conviction. Aniston is the real deal.

BD Wong | Mr. Robot as Whiterose | Episode: "eXit (S4 EP11)
Giancarlo Esposito | The Mandalorian as Moff Gideon | Episode: Chapter 7: The Reckoning" (S1 EP7)
She beat out honorable mention performances given by BD Wong for his performance as Whiterose in USA series 'Mr. Robot', and Giancarlo Esposito for his performance as Moff Gideon in Disney+ series 'The Mandalorian'. Like Aniston, Both Wong and Esposito are no stranger to the small screen. BD is known for his role as Father Ray Mukada on HBO series 'Oz' and Dr. Georg Huang on NBC series 'Law & Order: Special Victims Unit'. Giancarlo is known for his role as Gustavo "Gus" Fring on AMC series 'Breaking Bad' (2008-13), spin-off series 'Better Call Saul' (2015-present).

[REVIEW] 'The Morning Show' Season 1 Review

'The Morning Show' Season 1
Here's what the critic's had to say about the first season of AppleTV+'s drama series 'The Morning Show' starring Jennifer Aniston with criticism from Rotten Tomatoes, Metacritic, and IMDb.

" 'The Morning Show' is stylish and fast-paced." ⏤ critic Eric Deganns for NPR
Review aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes gave the season a score of 63% based on reviews from 88 critics with an average rating of 5.68/10.0. Rotten Tomatoes critics consensus states: "Though 'The Morning Show' at times feels more like a vanity project than the hard-hitting drama it aspires to be, there is pleasure to be had in watching Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon give it their all". Positive reviews from Rotten Tomatoes include: Critic Eric Deganns of NPR said, " 'The Morning Show' is stylish and fast-paced, the biggest project among nine original programs kicking off the new AppleTV+ service." Michael Idato for the Sydney Morning Herald said, "Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon, playing two women whose lives intersect after a catastrophic scandal, are brilliantly cast and take strong but imperfect material and lend it a little old Hollywood gravatis." Negative reviews from Rotten Tomatoes include: Critic Merrill Barr for Forbes said, "It's ['The Morning Show'] average. It's fine. Which, frankly, just isn't enough when Apple is staking a big chunk of its launch on it." Critic Emily Nussbaum for the New Yorker said, "Sadly, but its finale, 'The Morning Show' is less addictive train wreck than glum clunker, symptomatic of peak TV: it's yet another lacquered, poorly structured ten-episode story, whose sparks are dampened as it becomes more earnest."

According to Metacritic the first season of 'The Morning Show' got a score of 60 out of 100. Positive reviews from Metacritic include: Critic Glenn Garvin said, " 'The Morning Show' is high-voltage drama and big-time entertainment, a savage, scorching portrait of the TV news industry as a modern court of the Medicis where corporate genocide is coffee-break sport, where subordinates exist to be crushed and superiors to be sabotaged. It may not be exactly news that the most trusted men (and, these days, women) in America are anything but, but it's never been so convincingly demonstrated." Robert Lloyd for the Los Angels Times said, "As a mix of melodrama and well-written interactions that feel genuinely human, 'The Morning Show' is fairly entracing. Its characters, though big, are flawed in normal ways ... The ending is almost operatic; not quite believable, yet emotionally satisfying. It killed me, I must confess." Negative reviews from Metacritic include: Daniel D'Addario for Variety said, "Three episodes in, the women of 'The Morning Show' are islands even as co-anchors, and for no reason more compelling than that the plot has said so." Kelly Lawler for USA Today says, "The stakes are low, the writing is cliched and the overwhelming vibe is one of disappointing and wasted potential. Rachel Green deserved better."

"Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon are BRILLIANTLY cast!" ⏤ Michael Idato for Sydney Morning Herald
IMDb the internet movie database gave 'The Morning Show' a 8.2 star rating out of 10.0 star rating based on 219 votes from 210 users and 9 critics. Positive reviews from IMDb include: Joyce Slaton for Common Sense Media says, "Great actors and a strong stroyline in compelling drama." Negative reviews from IMDb include: Brian Tallerico for RogerEbert.com said, " 'The Morning Show' can't quite figure out what it wants to be, waffling between a soapy take on super personalities like "All About Eve" and "serious" commentary on the state of the world like "The Newsroom." A couple of the performances ⏤ and one in particular ⏤ keep it from being a complete disaster, but the show has a high degree of unearned self-importance.

[NEWS] Jennifer FINALLY Reveals Why She Turned Down a Role On 'SNL'

Howard Stern with Jennifer on SiriusXM radio show The Howard Stern Show
During an interview on SiriusXM with radio personality Howard Stern, Jennifer revealed why she turned down a role on 'Saturday Night Live!'. It turns out that, just before she signed on to do 'Friends', which aired its pilot episode September 24, 1994, the actress was in the talks with SNL creator Lorne Michaels to join the cast. Howard Stern said, "Lorne found she was funny wanting her to be on the show in a big way. However, despite the lucrative offer, Aniston declined."

Jennifer LIVE! during The Howard Stern Show
Jennifer said, "I didn't think I would like that environment. I remember showing up and [Adam] Sandler was there, and [David] Spade was there. I had known them already and they were like, 'Look, the Aniston's here.' You know, you're just not the brightest in your early twenties. I was like, 'I think the women need to be treated better here' because it was such a boys club. I didn't lecture, I was just saying what I would hope, if I was to do this, what I would hope it to be."

Although an exact year wasn't specified, she did mention 'Friends' was just about to happen, which suggests the SNL offer was made sometime in the early '90s. Based on this, it's likely Jennifer would have joined season 19 of SNL, which wrapped up a couple of months before 'Friends' first aired. At the time, Adam Sandler and David Spade had just been promoted to "repertory players". The women included in the cast were Ellen Cleghorne, Melanie Hustell, Julia Sweeney, and Sarah Silverman.
