[REVIEW] 'Zoolander 2' Review

Here's what the critics had to say about actor/screenwriter Justin Theroux's comedy sequel film 'Zoolander 2' with criticism from Rotten Tomatoes, Metacritc and IMDb:

Review aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes gave the film a score 22% of based on reviews from 129 critics with an average rating of 4.4/10.0. Rotten Tomatoes critic consensus states: "Zoolander No. 2 has more celebrity cameos than laughs - and its meager handful of memorable gags outnumbers the few worthwhile ideas discernible in its scattershot rehash of a script." Positive reviews from Rotten Tomatoes include: " 'Zoolander' captured its moment, and so does 'Zoolander 2'. It skewers the preening emptiness of contemporary culture with the help of people who are part of it." - said critic Mick LaSalle of the San Francisco Chronicle. "I laughed so much my wife thought I was going to have a stroke." - said critic Glenn Kenny of RogerEbert.com. "Ben Stiller's follow-up to his 2001 mini-classic is ridiculously funny. Stupid and unnecesary...but funny." - said critic Mara Reinstein of US Weekly magazine. Negative reviews from Rotten Tomatoes include: " 'Zoolander 2' feels less like its own movie and more like a Valentine's Day gift to all of the fans who have kept the character popular for all these years." - said critic Dirk Libbey of CinemaBlend.com. "Moviegoers may wish that Will Ferrell's megalomaniacal supervillain Mugatu had won in the first 'Zoolander' and saved us from another film with these boneheads." - said critic Brian Truitt of USA Today. "While the fashion satire 'Zoolander 2' still seems to be in on the joke, it has a tough time finding the punchline." - said critic Alynda Wheat of People magazine.

According to Metacritic the film got a score of 42 out of 100, based on reviews from 36 critics, indicating "generally unfavorable reviews." Positive reviews from Metacritic include: "Did you like 'Zoolander'? Good, then you'll like 'Zoolander 2' ". - said critic Gersh Kuntzman of the New York Daily News. "It's a bizarre pointless spectacle, but not an unamusing one. Characters like Alexanya and Atari feel very much like try-outs for 'Saturday Night LIVE!' characters - not surprising, given that at least four of the cast members have worked on that show." - said critic Jesse Hassenger of The A.V. Club. " 'Zoolander 2' sweats its silly ass off to please. The results are scattershot. But when it works - oh, baby. There's a hit with Justin Bieber and a selfie that, well, no spoilers." - said critic Peter Travers of Rolling Stone magazine. Negative reviews from Metacritic include: "Stiller the director does a fine job of making 'Zoolander 2' look like an actual spy movie, but we've seen far better takeoffs, including 'Spy' and 'Kingsman: The Secret Service' in just the last couple of years. As for the jabs at the transient nature of popular culture and the ridiculous of high fashion world - easy, tired targets." - said critic Richard Roeper of the Chicago Sun-Times. "The results may delight those how believe recycled gags and endless cameos to be the very essence of great screen comedy, but everyone else will likely recognize Stiller's wannabe Magnum opus as a disappointment slash-misfire, the orange mocha crappuccino of movie sequels." - said critic Justin Chang of Variety magazine. "Stiller's one good idea is turning over to Will Ferrell, who does some amusingly demented things while haranguing Anna Wintour and Tommy Hilfiger and is probably funnier in his sleep than Stiller is at his best." - said critic Kyle Smith of the New York Post.

"If you like the first Zoolander, you'll like the sequel." - Gersh Kunzman New York Daily News

IMDb the internet movie data base gave 'Zoolander 2' 5.5 stars out of 10.0 stars rating on 1,866 votes from 20 users and 104 critics. Positive reviews from IMDb critics include: "If you took away the extravagantly gaudy trappings of the overproduced, chaotic, not very funny comic circus that is 'Zoolander 2', you would still have a surefire basic concept." - said critic Stephen Holden of the New York Times. Negative reviews from IMDb critics include: "Is 'Zoolander 2' one 'Zoolander' too many? The answer, unfortunately, is yes more than no." - said critic Kenneth Turan of the Los Angeles Times. "There's a jumble of silliness and celebrity cameos, but ultimately this follow-up to the 2001 male-model hit never makes the cut." - said critic Alonso Duraide of The Wrap. com.
