[NEWS] Jennifer Aniston's Funny That Way

article by: Tatiana Siegel & Pamela McClintock

THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER
"Following its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival, Peter Bogdanovich's ensemble screwball comedy She's Funny That Way is selling to U.S. distributor Clarius Entertainment in a deal valued at $4.5 million. The movie, which screened privately for buyers at the Toronto International Film Festival following Venice, stars actor/comedian Owen Wilson as a married film and Broadway director who falls for a prostitute-turned-actress (Imogen Poots). Jennifer plays a therapist who's mother is in rehab. She's Funny That Way, received mixed reviews and marking Bogdonavich's first film in 13 years, co-stars actor/comedian Will Forte, actress/comedienne Kathryn Hahn, actor Rhys Ifans, actress Cybill Shepherd, and actor Richard Lewis, with actress Tatum O'Neal, actress Jennifer Esposito, Graydon Carter, actor Jake Hoffman, and actor Michael Shannon making cameo appearances.

The filmmaker panned the script 15 years ago with his then-wife, Louise Stratten. CAA and UTA brokered the deal with Clarius, which is aggressively pursing star-driven movies, including And So It Goes, starring actor Michael Douglas and actress Diane Keaton. And So It Goes, released earlier this summer, was a disappointment however, earning only $15 million to date. Upcoming titles include Rowan Joffe's Before I Got to Sleep, starring actor Colin Firth and actress Nicole Kidman. That film hits theaters October 31. She's Funny That Way is the second fall festival title starring Aniston that's seeking U.S. distribution. She also stars in director Daniel Barnz's searing drama Cake, which made its worldwide premiere in Toronto. Her role in Cake earned the actress a nomination for Best Lead Actress of the Year in the drama category of both the Golden Globe and the Screen Actors Guild awards shows, but she lost both awards to fellow actress Julianne Moore who starred in Still Alice."
