The Yellow Birds' premiered September 10, 2017 at the 43rd Annual Deauville Film Festival in Deauville, France with director Alexandre Moors and cinematographer Daniel Landin in attendance. However, the film was pulled from competition. Since the film first premiered January 17, 2017 at the Sundance Film Festival claims have been made that the film "isn't ready" - even though production and filming wrapped up January 29, 2016.

The Yellow Birds' has been pulled from other film festivals - it was scheduled to premiere at the Edinburgh International Film Festival June 30, 2017 and also receive a nomination for the Audience award, which was later revoked after the film was dropped out of the festival. The film is scheduled to premiere during the Hampton International Film Festival, but pulled from the "Special presentations" award category.
