[NEWS] Jen Breaks Away from Rachel Green in "Cake"

She puts the 'cloak of Rachel' to rest as this actress proves you can star in one of the most beloved sitcoms of the last quarter century (1994-2004 NBC's Friends), win an Emmy and a Golden Globe, be paid $1 million per episode, find as much success in movies and still have more than a little something to prove, along with a whole lot to lose. "Cake" is directed by Daniel Barnz starring Jennifer Aniston as a devastated woman who's uncertain recovery, who diverts away with her pretty, peppy image; Aniston gained +20 pounds, wore no make-up and called the experience, "liberating".

According to critic's her performance as Claire Simmons, a woman suffering from chronic pain after the results of a tragic accident left her scarred emotionally and physically - inside and out, weighed in only a handful worth of positive recognition to essentially muscle her into the awards season. Proving apparently - not worthy - because Aniston was beat out by fellow actress Julianne Moore for her performance as Dr. Alice Howland in drama "Still Alice"; Aniston lost the 'Best Lead Actress' award at the 72nd Annual Golden Globes, the 21st Annual Screen Actors Guild awards, and the 20th Annual Critic's Choice award, and wasn't even taken into consideration at the 87th Annual Academy awards as a Oscar nominee headlining as one of the "#1 Oscar snub". Aniston said this of her current film role, "you have to do something really dark to be taken seriously, I guess," she added, "if you're in someone's living room every week for 10 years and every day on God knows what network, people are going to have a hard time saying, 'Okay, we're gong to see you do what now?' without making associations. It's a Catch-22. It's like: 'I KNOW I CAN play this part, you just have to let me!' And then it's, 'I CAN'T let you play that part, because I've NEVER seen you do it.' There were jobs that I really wanted and would fight and fight and then the obvious previous Oscar winners would get them. It makes me want to say, "You won't know if I CAN'T play that part because you WON'T let me!"

On that note her fiance screenwriter/actor Justin Theroux is mentioned and the actresses face lights up replying, "I know, it's a rock" says Aniston fiddling with her diamond engagement ring, "it took me a while to get use to it. One thing people misjudge about my ring is they think it's a fake or a prop, but it's very real. I don't just lunge this thing around with me for the heck of it, I'm not a diamond girl. I'm more Indian jewelry and stuff." When asked why her and Justin haven't tied the knot yet she replies, "We're still trying to figure out what kind of ceremony we want." Aniston added, "you don't see a lot of me getting asked, 'Why aren't you married?' 'Why aren't you having children?' You don't get the 'Well, they seem to play the same thing over and over again,' and some of them do," she said. Of her past film role choices Jennifer has in fact churned out movies at an unflagging pace. While many have been romance-tinged; (2010) The Switch, (2011) Just Go with It; conventional Hollywood comedies; (2011) Horrible Bosses, (2012) Wanderlust, (2013) We're the Millers - Jennifer has routinely built in exceptions. She was the femme fatale to Clive Owen's patsy in (2005) thriller/drama Derailed, tucked herself into an ensemble in (2006) drama/comedy Friend's with Money, and most notably played a Texas dime-store clerk trapped in a mirthless marriage in (2002) The Good Girl, a tiny independent drama film for which she got rave reviews from critics, but the movie itself quickly faded from memory. All in all she's hoping for more from Cake. Director Daniel Barnz said the following of his choice for casting Aniston in the lead role, "Ms. Aniston's commitment to the project was instant and complete. Her transformation was a change of pace less as a physical transformation along the lines of fellow actors Charlize Theron in (2001) Monster or Matthew McConaughey in (2013) Dallas Buyer's Club. To date Cake has currently made $1.9 million in box office and been successful when it comes to media and social buzz.
