[NEWS] Jennifer Set to Star in the Film Adaption of Kevin Powers 'The Yellow Birds'

The Yellow Birds is fictional Guardian First Book award winning novel by author and Iraq war veteran Kevin Powers published September 6, 2012. It tells harrowing tale of two young soldiers trying to stay alive. In Al Tafar, Iraq, twenty-one year old Private John Bartle; played by actor Alden Ehrenreich in the movie, and eighteen-year old Private Daniel Murphy; played by actor Tye Sheridan in the movie, cling to life as their platoon launches a bloody battle for the city. Bound together since basic training when Bartle makes a promise to bring Murphy safely home, the two have been dropped into a war neither of them is prepared for. In the endless days that follow, the two young soldiers do everything in their power to protect each other from the forces that press in on every side: the insurgents, physical fatigue, and the mental stress that comes from constant danger. As reality begins to blur into a hazy nightmare, Murphy becomes increasingly unmoored from the world around him while Bartle takes action he could never have imagined.

The film will be directed by Alexandre Moors and is written by screenwriter David Lowery. Jennifer is set to play LaDonna Murphy the mother of actor Tye Sheridan's character Daniel, and actor Jack Huston is set to play Sergeant Sterling. The film will also star actress Carrie Wampler as Jenny Smith, and actor Daniel Jose Molina as Vasquez. Originally actors Benedict Cumberbatch and Will Poulter were cast as the male leads of Bartle and Murphy, but dropped out after the project was delayed. Principal photography began in October of 2015 taking place in Morocco and the United States. Warner Bros. Pictures is set to distribute the film and is produced through the production companies Cinelou Films and Story Mining & Supply Co. by producers Mark Canton, Courtney Solomon, Jeff Sharp, Evan Hayes, and Karim Debbagh. The Yellow Birds has yet to have a set release date, but will be released in 2016.
