[NEWS] By the Sea: A Reflection of Brad & Jennifer or Bradjolina

"Since the theatrical trailer for Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's new film By the Sea was released August 6, 2015 speculation has circulated that the inspiration behind it all was Jolie's telling of Jennifer and Brad's relationship. YouTubers have commented:


"Admit it. Regardless of whether or not you love, neutral, or dislike Angie & Brad, you still find them fascinating. They're one of those people that no one can leave alone, regardless of how they feel. Everyone seems to participate. Heart throbbing fans and naysayers alike."

"So Angelina made a film about the way Brad and Jennifer were?"

However, Jolie sat down with reporter Oliver Gettel of Entertainment Weekly magazine to clear things up. She says, "This was deeply personal, but not because it portrays my marriage on the rocks or is somehow a reflection of my own relationship with my co-star/husband Brad," said the actress, "I wrote By the Sea because I wanted to explore grief," said Jolie. She explains that much of the film, as well as Jolie's character in particular, is about her mother Marcheline Bertrand, and her feelings about her mother.

The speculation of the film being based off of Jennifer and Brad's previous relationship was caused by storyline: Centering around an American writer (Pitt) and his wife (Jolie) who arrive in a picturesque seaside resort in France, (minus being in France Jennifer and Brad did take a vacation that was planned well in advance before their irreconcilable differences) the couple spend time with fellow travelers and locals (unlike Brad and Jen who mostly stayed cooped up in their resort room) as the couple in the film begin to confront unresolved issues in their lives.

"I hope the movie will leave audiences with something to chew on," said Angelina. This marks her and Brad's second time appearing on the big screen together in 10-years since they were opposite each other in (2005) action/romance film Mr. & Mrs. Smith. That film caused circulation of cheating rumors as well as the theory that Mr. & Mrs. Smith lead to Brad and Jennifer's divorce. Jennifer as well as her representatives have yet to make a comment regarding her ex's new film."
