[NEWS] How Did the 'Mad Men' Finale Stack Up to Other Memorable Series Endings?

Saying, "Goodbye" to a beloved show is never easy - and it's even harder when the series doesn't get the finale it deserves. Weigh in on some of the most talked-about season finales ever!

Mad Men [2007-2015]
Mad Men season 7 finale episode "Person to Person"
The period-drama AMC series first went on the air July 19, 2007 with a total of 1.65 million viewers tuning in to see the pilot episode. May 17, 2015 the series came to an end with a total of 3.29 million viewers tuning in to see too-smart-to-be-a-secretary Joan announced plans to go into business for herself, Peggy Olson; actress Elisabeth Moss's character, and Stan Rizzo; actor Jay R. Ferguson, locked lips and Don Draper; actor Jon Hamm's character, disappeared to a commune in California. The final shot of the series showed him meditating next to the Pacific Ocean as the screen faded into a feel-good Coca-Cola commercial. While the series won on the air it won multiple awards for Best Drama Series of the Year including 1 Critic's Choice Television award, 4 Primetime Emmy awards, 4 Golden Globe awards, 3 Satellite awards, 2 Screen Actors Guild awards, and 5 Television Critic's Association awards.

Friends [1994-2004]

The romantic sitcom HBO series first went on the air June 6, 1998 with a total of some odd million viewers tuning in to see the pilot episode. (Excluding the two sequel films the series spawned) February 22, 2004 the series came to an end with a total of some odd million viewers tuning in to see Carrie Bradshaw; actress Sarah Jessica Parker's character, had finally left New York to follow Aledsandr Petrowsky; actor Mikhail Baryshnikov's character, to Paris. It didn't take long for her to see the error of her ways, however, thanks in part to "Mr. Big" a.k.a. John James Preston; actor Chris Noth's character, who finally came to the realization he couldn't live without her. While the series was on the air it won multiple awards for Best Comedy Series of the Year including 2 Primetime Emmy awards, 1 GLAAD Media award, 3 Golden Globe awards, and 2 Screen Actors Guild awards.

The Sopranos [1999-2007]

The American crime-drama HBO series first went on the air January 10, 1999 with a total of some odd million viewers tuning in to see the pilot episode. June 10, 2007 the series came to an end with a total of some odd million viewers tuning int to see the loose ends tied up, but not conclude with the big bang that audiences predicted. Instead, the final moments showed Tony Soprano; actor James Gandolgini's character,  and his family sitting in a booth at Holsten's - then the whole thing cut to black as Journey played in the background. While the series was on the air it won multiple awards for Best Drama Series of the Year including 2 Primetime Emmy awards, 1 Golden Globe award, 2 Screen Actors Guild awards, and 7 Television Critic's Association awards.

Seinfeld [1989-1998]

May 14, 1998 the series came to an end with a total of 76.3 million viewers tuning in to see the ending of a show about noting. The gang prepared to head to Paris for one last hurrah before Jerry Seinfeld; actor/comedian Jerry Seinfeld's character, and George Costanza; actor Jason Alexander's character, relocate to Los Angeles, California to produce a television show, but their plane goes down in Massachusetts, where they witness a carjacking. This leads to a trial in the second part the season finale landing the gang in the slammer. Gilmore Girls [2000-2007]

May 15, 2007 the series came to an end after getting cancelled with a total of 3.7 million viewers tuning in to see a send-off party being thrown for Rory Gilmore; actress Alexis Bledel's character, in the Stars Hollow town square, a Friday night dinner with the Gillmores and the long-awaited reunion of the formerly engaged Luke Danes; actor Scott Patterson's character, and Lorelai Gillmore; actress Lauren Graham's character. While the series was on the air it only won two awards for Best Comedy Series of the Year including 1 Teen Choice award and 1 Television Critic's Association award.

How I Met Your Mother [2005-2014]

The comedy CBS series first went on the air September 19, 2005 with a total of 10.94 million viewers tuning in to see the pilot episode. March 31, 2014 the series came to an end with a total of 13.13 million viewers tuning in to see Ted Mosby; actor Josh Radnor's character, get his happy ending with the very elusive 'mother'. And he did - although it wasn't really the end of Ted's story. After Tracy McConnell; actress Cristin Milioti's character, his wife and the mother of his children died of a terminal illness. The final moments of the show saw him rekindling his romance with Robin Scherbatsky; actress Cobie Schmulder's character, with his son and daughter's blessing. While the series was on the air it only won an individual award for Best Comedy Series of the Year including 1 People's Choice award.

Parenthood [2010-2015]

The drama NBC series first went on the air March 2, 2010 with a total of 8.10 million viewers tuning in to see the pilot episode. January 29, 2015 the series came to an end with a total 5.46 million viewers tuning in to see Sarah Braverman; actress Lauren Graham's character, marry Hank Rizzoli; actor/comedian Ray Romano. Julia Braverman-Graham; actress Erika Christensen and Joel Graham; actor Sam Jaeger's character, adopt Victor Graham's; actor Xolo Mariduena's character, baby half-sister, and of course, in the biggest Kleenex moment Zeek Braverman's; actor Craig T. Nelson's character, unexpected death. While the series was on the air it won multiple awards to Best Drama Series of the Year including 2 Television Academy Honors award, and 1 NAMIC Vision award.

Dexter [2006-2013]

The drama Showtime series first went on the air October 1, 2006 with a total of 0.60 million viewers tuning in to see the pilot episode. September 22, 2013 the series came to an end with a total of 2.80 million viewers tuning in to see the controversial conclusion that had, well, a lot of death. Dexter Morgan; actor Michael C. Hall's character, took his sister Debra Morgan; actress Jennifer Carpenter's character, off life support and dumped her body in the water. While out at sea, he seemingly commits suicide, but the last moments show reveal that he faked his death. While the series was on the air it won multiple awards for Best Drama Series of the Year including 2 Satellite awards, 1 Saturn award, 2 American Film Institute awards, 3 IGN awards, 1 Peabody award, and 1 Scream award.

Friday Night Lights [2006-2011]
Friday Night Lights season 5 finale episode "Always"
The drama NBC series first went on the air October 3, 2008 with a total of some odd million viewers tuning in to see the pilot episode. February 9, 2011 the series came to an end with a total of some odd million viewers tuning in to see the mantra of Dillion's citizen's - well, besides clear eyes full heart, can't lose, but that didn't prove to ring true for the Taylor family, who left the Lone Star state behind for Philadelphia, where Tami; actress Connie Britton's character, had a new job waiting for her.  This bittersweet moment was coupled with, obviously, a state championship football game. While the series was on the air it won an individual award for Best Drama Series of the Year including 1 Television Critic's Association award.
