[REVIEW] 'The Leftovers"" Season 3 Review

Here's what the critics had to say about the third and final season of HBO's drama/fantasy series 'The Leftovers' starring Justin Theroux with criticism from Rotten Tomatoes, Metacritic, and IMDb.

Review aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes gave the third season a score of 98% based on reviews from 30 critics with an average rating of 9.5/10.0. Rotten Tomatoes critic consensus states: "With reliably ambitious storytelling and outstanding performances from its cast, season 3 of 'The Leftovers' approaches the series' conclusion as thoughtfully, purposefully, and confidently as it began." Positive reviews from Rotten Tomatoes include: " 'The Leftovers' is a tremendous iceberg of a show on which one could write endlessly about just one or two calving chunks of interest and come nowhere near delving into even a small portion of what lurks underneath." - critic Dan Fienberg for the Hollywood Reporter. "Like a good millennialist cult, 'The Leftovers' grasps an outlandish idea with absolute emotional commitment; The performances in this final run are spectacular throughout, but especially Ms. Coon's and Mr. Theroux's." - critic James Poinewozik for the New York Times. "Keep the show near you; it's a keeper that will endure" - critic Jeff Jensen for Entertainment Weekly magazine. Negative reviews from Rotten Tomatoes include: "I'm moved past depression and into acceptance when it comes to this series, but I'm still going to miss it when it's gone." - critic Matt Zoller Seitz for Vulture.

" 'The Leftovers' is spectacular in every sense of that word" - critic Maureen Ryan for Variety magazine
According to Metacritic the third season of 'The Leftovers' got a score of 98 out of 100. Positive reviews from Metacritic include: "The new season of 'The Leftovers' is spectacular in every sense of that word." - critic Maureen Ryan for Variety magazine. "Between the prospects of definitive ending, the looming fear of catastrophe, and the continually exceptional performances, its bravura television that somehow follows the model of earlier season while subverting expectations." - critic Sophie Gilbert of The Atlantic. "Breathtaking...Great visuals, complex themes, incredible performances - maybe there are ways to write about 'The Leftovers'. And yet there's still something about his program that can't be put into words. There something almost religious about in way you just need to see it, feel it, and believe." critic Brian Tallerico for Roger Ebert. Negative reviews from Metacritic include: "Just like 'Lost', worst ending possible. So many unanswered questions. I NEVER would have watched this if I had known they dropped the ball to wrap the show up. I am SO MAD I wasted my time watching this crap show. Be warned it goes no where and you will regret it all." - critic cterryr2 from Television Critics.

" 'The Leftovers' is awesome that is what I mean: 'It fills me with awe' " - critic Ken Tucker for Yahoo! TV
IMDb the internet movie database gave the 'The Leftovers' a 9.3 star rating out of a 10.0 star rating based on 46,269 votes from 247 users and 54 critics. Positive reviews from IMDb include: " 'The Leftovers' miraculously turns that ambiguity into its greatest accomplishment." critic Richard Larson for Slant Magazine. "I'm not a person who tosses around the word "awesome" the way it's used today - which is to say as a synonym for "very good" or "cool". No, when I say 'The Leftovers' is awesome, that is what I mean: 'It fills me with awe' ". - critic Ken Tucker for Yahoo! TV. " Damon Lindeloff and Tom Perrotta's final season is a masterpiece more in tune with the moment than anything you'll see this year." - critic Ben Travers for IndieWire. Negative reviews from IMDb include: "As barely watched and short-lived HBO drama, 'The Leftovers' doesn't have anyone or anything to answer for. But if these final episodes are any indication, more shows should have that luxury and that freedom." - critic Cory Barker for TV Guide magazine.
